Lilian White, Stephen White Other books by Lilian White, Stephen White
The Second World War experiences of Lilian White who was evacuated from London to the countryside. She travelled hundreds of miles away from her home to live, for the first time, with a middle class family. Lilian now found herself in strange surroundings, where the privileged lives of those around her were even more exceptional than she could have ever imagined. The head of the household was nominated to be Lord Mayor; his wife was awarded a medal from King George. The wife's sister, who also lived in the house, had been a missionary in Africa. Lilian attended the local church for long periods and then returned to a household where the stricter Quaker beliefs held sway.
