Cennard Davies was born in Treorci, Rhondda, where he still lives. He graduated in Welsh at the University of Swansea, later becoming Head of the Centre for Language Studies at the University of Glamorgan. He has published widely and was one of the tutors who wrote and presented the Radio Wales Catchphrase Course for Welsh learners.
